Yavanna is Brisbane’s best plant-based hangout, established by a passionate foodie: Cale Drouin. He decided to launch Yavanna while working at a vegan distribution company.
After five years of great success, the exceptional team at It’s Mirchi took over ownership in April 2022. Known for crafting the finest healthy Indian cuisine Brissie has to offer, this announcement was gladly received by local customers. Lauren, Urvashi and Sunny have been thriving at the helm of Yavanna ever since, showcasing their years of hospitality expertise to create a memorable dining experience. Our distinctive name, Yavanna, references a beautiful goddess, known to be the giver of fruit and queen of the earth. A rather apt name for our plant-based haven. But it also happens to be a name featured in “The Silmarillion” by the late J.R.R. Tolkien, one of former head chef and founder John Baker’s favourite authors.
Step inside our decadent eatery and you’ll spot clever references to his collection of mythopoeic works, including an Insta-worthy feature wall of a woman’s face. Each splash of femininity and every twig of greenery also helps to create an uplifting, welcoming space for all to enjoy our one-of-a-kind menu. That’s what we’re all about – offering a comforting hub in the heart of bustling Brisbane where like-minded people can tuck into delicious house-made meals. However, it’s no secret many Brisbanites and non-Brisbanites alike are sublimely unimpressed by the mention of vegan food. Perhaps they’ve just not experienced it the Yavanna way!

As a team of passionate, plant-based foodies, our goal is to break every stereotype one-by-one with incredible vegan dishes. We’re here to prove that eating plant-based doesn’t have to be boring or flavourless. From our juicy steaks to our cheesy delights, there’s something for everyone to relish, whether vegan or not!
